What We Do

The Mental Health Services Command advances mental wellness, resilience, readiness, awareness, and education among firefighters, first responders, support personnel, and their families. Through educational resources, awareness campaigns, webinars, and community outreach, we help reduce mental health stigma, encourage early support, and strengthen the well-being of those who serve and protect our communities.

First Responders and Family Readiness Program

The First Responders and Family Readiness Program supports the preparedness, resilience, and well-being of first responders and their families throughout the challenges of public safety service. Recognizing that families also share the demands and sacrifices of service, the program provides accessible information, education, resource navigation, and community-based support.

Program areas include:

  • Mental wellness and resilience education
  • Stress management and healthy coping strategies
  • Family preparedness and communication
  • Suicide-prevention awareness and crisis-resource information
  • Leadership education and organizational readiness
  • Peer, family, and community connection
  • Educational webinars and awareness campaigns
  • Free downloadable mental health materials
  • Referrals to appropriate professional and community resources

The program is designed to help first responders and their families remain informed, prepared, connected, and resilient—before, during, and after periods of stress, crisis, or significant life transition.

Our Vision

A nationwide first responder community in which mental health and family readiness are recognized as essential components of operational preparedness, personal strength, and long-term well-being—and where no first responder or family member faces life’s challenges alone.
